About the Artist

 

Brendan Murphy

Music and photography have been my main forms of artistic expression for many years (I guess, now I'll have to include video!). Although I have worked in several musical styles, the vast majority of my efforts have been in original rock music. I have been writing music and lyrics since 7th grade, and have been recording since my days at Northport High School (in New York) back in the 70's.

Although I started doing photography in high school, this did not really pick-up for me until I got a job at a major international airline (British Airways) back in the '80's, which afforded me the opportunity to travel the world at very little cost (!) - Almost immediately I started to record these journeys on 35mm chrome film, and it has just grown from there ever since. My "World On Film" Gallery on 500px documents this period in quite a bit of detail. (click the image below to check it out)

 

I always intended to make my art my primary gig but life, as they say, got in the way. I would eventually end up having a 35-year long airline career. I have no regrets about my time with British Airways, however, as I travelled the world, and made lifelong friends. This includes my wife, with whom I eventually 'settled down' to start a family. Our two children are by far my most successful contributions to this world. But they are now young adults, and I have since retired from the airline biz - so it finally seems the right time for me to get my act together once again, and get it on the virtual road.
